This hymn is a prayer that has been passed down five generations in our family.
Moreover, many of my students over the years memorized portions of this hymn and would typically close out our school day with the stanzas, "Jesus, Savior, was away ~All that has been wrong today~ Help us every day to be ~ Good and gentle, more like Thee.
The hymn was written in1870 by Frances Ridley Havergal.
